J.Colleen Boutique

Right before heading out to Japan I was invited to attend the grand opening of J. Colleen Boutique in Lafayette on Saturday, September 7th.  The invite promised a fashion show, movie screenings, and of course snacks. It was hard to not attend despite preparing to take a trip out of the country.

When I arrived, there were the usual amenities for a store opening. In this case wine, served here by The Wine Thieves, and sushi, from Serika of Orinda, were on the menu before the start of the fashion show. Before the show started I went into the store and took a peek at the merchandise inside.  J. Colleen Boutique, or JCB, features an array of goodies that I could only describe as a mix of upscale and contemporary. The store has some unique features, such as the mirror below, that came from Jessica McClintock’s former showroom. The owner of the boutique, Julie Rubio, shows her amazing taste with the art decor and displays of Chanel Bags (not for sale) on near the merchandise. The boutique also features items being sold on consignment, further illustrating Julie’s great taste in clothes.

Before the beginning of the show, we had a performance titled “Life’s About Individuality” by Elijah Stavena. He is Julie’s son and I thought it was an interesting way of starting off the show. Already the show didn’t necessarily make sense to me since most shows I’ve attended tend to focus solely on the clothes. Things started to make less sense when the models walked up on the stage with some outdated dresses from the eighties. It wasn’t until one women took out some scissors from her bosom and began cutting off her dress that things started to come together.

I learned the women cutting up the dresses before our eyes was local designer Lucid Dawn. She had one of the most creative outfits in the mix, and I learned that the dresses being cut up and tossed away would be upcycled into different clothes. Below are some of my favorite dresses from the “transformation” portion of the show and swimsuit outfits.

The fashion show ended with Julie cutting the ribbon to commemorate the grand opening of the boutique. Movie screenings and were scheduled after a quick intermission, but my sister and I had to leave since we still needed to prepare for our trip.

Before leaving for the night I had to thank JCB’s Assistant Manager, Jacquelin Everhart, for inviting me to the event. The event was really fun and the store is definitely worth checking out if you are ever in Lafayette. J. Colleen Boutique is located at 261 Lafayette Circle and it is open Tuesdays – Fridays from 10 am – 5 pm and on Saturdays from 11 am – 6 pm.

Trendy Lime Presents JETLAG 26

Last Wednesday I attended the third anniversary for JETLAG hosted by Trendy Lime at the historical Clift Hotel in San Francisco. What is JETLAG? JETLAG is “an exclusive event that brings together business trendsetters and social influencers from around the world.” The focus for this JETLAG was on fashion, specifically the latest collection by San Francisco designer Daniel Sudar. The fashion show for the night showcased SUDAR’s new underwear line “Sensual.”
This event was also a benefit to raise funds for Academy of Friends. The goal was to raise $3,000 by the end of the night. In addition to raffles for some amazing prizes, models were also auctioned off for dates after the fashion show.  Here are some of the highlights from the SUDAR collection as well as a helping of serious eye-candy photographed by Armando:

While I enjoyed seeing the male models in their boxers, I was very excited to see that the female models were also rocking the boxers by SUDAR. I enjoyed the colorful prints and the luxurious look of the boxer’s materials. The girl with the black camisole and grey cardigan made me want to be at home vegging out instead of wearing a dress and heels. The collection overall was fabulous and I am now inspired to try wearing boxers like SUDAR as my pajamas now that the weather is getting warmer.
Overall I had a blast and I am looking forward to the next event hosted by Trendy Lime in the city.
Which look, or model, is your favorite? Let me know!

Fashion Show and HauteLegs

On Monday I attended the Femme Press Fashion Show sponsored by the City College of San Francisco at The Cellar.
My outfit for the event:

Black Trench Luii, Red and Black A-Line Dress Prabal Gurung for Target, Ulltra Black Pumps Steve Madden, Quilted Bag and Bow Ring Forever 21, Tights C/O HauteLegs I wore the dress and had a cardigan on for work during the day, but changed the look up after work for the show. I added the trench and the tights courtesy of Haute Legs. I wanted to be warm but I didn’t want my leg wear to be boring. I love the detail these tights have and I am excited to share a few more posts in the near future of tights I received from them.
In case you are interested, HauteLegs is a legwear subscription service based in San Francisco. When you visit their site, you fill out a style profile to let them better understand what legwear will suit you. Then you choose your subscription package, and before long you’ll be enjoying 3 new pairs of beautiful legwear. There is a banner on my sidebar with an offer code: Free Pair in case you’d like to try the service out. I am not making any money off new subscriptions, but I love the concept and product and want to get it out there. I absolutely love the pairs I received and cannot wait to style them!
The tights I am wearing are pretty awesome not only because they are unique, but also because they actually fit into the theme of the Fashion Show I attended. Just look at a few of dresses from the collection!

Notice the connection? Sheer panels! Super obvious right? The other similarity is all the photos had black clothes, but you get bonus points if you guessed the first answer. I felt so on trend at the show with my tights and am glad I added them at the last minute.

F.A.S.T. Fashion Show: Fantasy

As I noted yesterday, I did not have time to post my own outfit (or take a photo of it) since I was attending the F.A.S.T spring fashion show. The theme of this semester’s show was fantasy, and I had a blast taking photos of these outfits. It is funny, but one of the only reasons I knew about this event is that I signed up for the club my first semester as a Freshmen, and went to about 3 meetings and never was as motivated to design anything. I did enjoy being a part of the front row crowd taking photos with other people. These are not all the outfits showcased, but they are my favorite. I personally believe my best shot is the one of the red dress, just because it reminds me of something Valentino would create. I admire the hard work, craftsmanship, and detail put into each outfit. Maybe someday I will dust off the sewing machine and create my own looks, but until then I will have fun simply styling myself everyday.
