Breakfast at Tiffany’s

So Happy Halloween. Despite not having somewhere fun to go, I managed to find a work-appropriate costume for work. Here is my version of Holly Golightly from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This was one of Audrey Hepburn most iconic roles, as it she even launched the little black dress into its on icon status. (Coco Chanel “invented” it in 1926, but Audrey Hepburn’s role brought it back to life in 1961 and it has remained a style staple in everyone’s woman’s closet.)
This little black dress was thrifted, and it is Céline! Imagine my surprise finding a designer dress for less than $10! This is one of the first times I put a costume together with items I already had, and I only bought the gloves and cigarette holder to complete the look.

So happy with the outfit, and I even had compliments from strangers when I wore my princess trench coat over my costume. It was not too far a stretch from my typical work wear attire. I see a lot of future use for this dress, and even the gloves can be re-purposed for a special event!

Hope you had a fun and sweet Halloween!

Shiny Grey Trench Coat

Trench Coat, Necklace, and Bracelets Forever 21, Black Wrap Dress Diane Von Furstenberg, Patent Leather Flats Steve Madden One more day until Halloween! Rain is expected tomorrow, but I hope not since tomorrow I plan on wearing my costume to work.
This trench coat has been with me for awhile, and I can never let it go because of the flattering fit as well as the color. It simply goes well with a lot of my black clothing and keeps my dresses or pants from looking too dark or overwhelmingly black. As you can see from the final photo, the lining inside is pretty cute too.
I am also very happy to finally feature my classic, black DVF wrap dress as well. I chose flats because this wrap dress is shorter than the other ones. Once again I piled on the bangles and added an extra bangle. Since that was round, I choose this necklace to keep up with the round theme.
I am off now to go bake a pumpkin spice bundt cake and frost some caramel apple cupcakes. Will post photos of those on Thursday (or maybe tomorrow) if I finish my test from my night class early.
In case I don’t post tomorrow, hope you have a safe, and Happy Halloween!

Black Mini Skirt

Floral Peplum Top and Black Postage Mini Skirt Diane Von Furstenberg | Pink Flower Earrings Betsey Johnson |  Bracelets Forever 21 | Blue Suede Ulltra Pumps Steve MaddenHere is my Monday outfit!
A little peplum top and a mini skirt was a perfect way to start the week at the office. I also really wanted to wear my new blue suede pumps! Found these little beauties on eBay, and I wish they were still available at the Steve Madden store and came in every color. The Ulltra pump has been the most comfortable shoe for me, and I am able to last at work all day in them.
I am going to miss this warm fall weather, because once it gets cold in the Bay Area, it really gets cold! I am not ready for the winter weather yet particularly because I don’t have enough knits to survive. These may be the last few days I can go without tights or leggings. I must really utilize my last warm days and wear skirts and dresses.
Hope you had a great Monday and it is almost Halloween! Cannot wait to share my costume with you all then!

Marc Jacobs Tunic

Navy and Pink Tunic Marc by Marc Jacobs | Raspberry Cardigan and Bow Ring Forever 21 | Blue Jeggings 7 for all Mankind | Black Patent Flats Steve Madden | Belt No BrandSaturday spent running errands and shopping in San Francisco for some accessories that I need for my Halloween costume.
This year I am actually using items I already have in my closet to create my costume, and it is important for me to do that not only to stay within a certain budget but also to be work-appropriate. Halloween costumes for women are now only available in the “Sexy” option, and while it might be suitable for a night partying and drinking, it is nowhere near appropriate for the office. My costume will actually be pretty normal, but I am excited just the same for a chance to dress up as someone else.
About today’s outfit. Once again, Crossroads allowed me to score not only the tunic, but these classic jeggings as well. I realize that buying items of higher quality really is worthwhile when it lasts so much longer than my usual clothes from Forever 21 (specifically the denim). Quality can depend as well since I have worn this cardigan multiple times and it is still in great condition. I have worn this tunic before as seen here. I really love the colors and print and am comfortable in both cases. Which look do you like more?

All Saints Black Dress

Racerback Gathered Black Dress All Saints | Black Sweater Wrap Top Diane Von Furstenberg |  Panda Necklace, Spike Rings, and Black Leggings Forever 21 | Overpas Black Suede Boots Steve MaddenMy casual Friday look. Had I known this was going to be a warm day I would have worn this dress minus the boots, leggings, and sweater and worn my studded belt and some black wedges. Alas, I had no idea it would be so warm, but layering the sweater was a good idea for later in the afternoon.
I have a lot of black clothing, and have been trying to avoid to buy anything black for awhile. However, when I spotted this dress at Crossroads Trading Co, it was too hard to resist. It is one of those dresses I could not see myself wearing more than once particularly because I did not know how to wear it.
I feel the layering of the top and leggings give it and interesting effect as it plays up the busy bottom of the dress. Tying up the wrap top also makes it seem like I am a little taller, which is usually the case when your look is monochrome. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and am very happy Crossroads Trading Co gives me an opportunity to try new things without breaking the bank.

Abstract

Abstract Butterfly Kimono Sleeve Leena Dress Diane Von Furstenberg | Black Leggings H&M | Black Suede Overpas Boots Steve Madden | Butterfly ring and Colorful Bangles Forever 21 | Graphic Flower Print Satchel Coach PoppyI am dressed in one of the most interesting dresses that I have yet to purchase. It is a dress I actually purchased off Bonanza.com, and it was well worth the splurge. Just look at the detail! The shape! The colors! The sleeves! The butterflies coming to life out of the paint!

I own one kimono wrap top, but it has nothing on the sleeves of this dress. It has an edgy, artsy vibe, alludes to a Japanese kimono, and also looks bohemian. I chose to wear it with the leggings and black suede boots because of class and the weather, but I can already see this worn with some colorful heels and a clutch for going out, or classic black pumps and no jewelry for another look at work. I added the fun accessories to play up the pattern on the dress.

I have become a die-hard fan of Diane Von Furstenberg’s dresses. Nothing she makes is unflattering, and I can truly rely on her items to make me stand out in a crowd.
