New Job Survival Kit

Towards the beginning of February, one of my coworkers received a new job opportunity that made me feel completely torn. I was very excited for her and proud that she had this new opportunity ahead for her. On the other hand, I felt an overwhelming sadness of how I was going to be losing my cubicle neighbor and the opportunity to hang out with my friend everyday while doing some work on the side.
Knowing that she was starting a job in a smaller team on the other side of the Bay, I struggled with coming up with a parting gift that was meaningful yet useful. So I did some research on Pinterest and was inspired to make her a New Job Survival Kit. I wanted to give her things she might need when I based on the things she would borrow from me since we were cubicle neighbors and things I knew she liked. So without further ado, here is what I included in my basket and the reason for each item:

Notebook – For all the notes you’ll be takingPen – To take notes withGummy Bears – A snack for when you don’t want to walk to a vending machineBinder Clips – For when you are in a “bind”Aleve – To alleviate those headaches from your long commuteChap Stick – Because you always lose themGum – To help you “stick” to your goalsAltoids – For you to always have fresh breath or to have around to offer to someone who is talking to youFirst Aid Kit – So you are prepared for paper cutsEmergen-C – To keep you from missing out on a day of workTissue – For when you have a cold (or when you start missing me)Oatmeal – For a breakfast on-the-goTide-2-Go – To remove any stains while you’re eating your food on-the-goLint Roller – To brush off any doubts, but mostly to remove lintBobby Pins and Hair Ties – Because you would ask to borrow these Foodie Book – So that you know what restaurants to go to while you are traveling the world with all that money Kit Kat – For when you need a break.M&M’s – To have a snack to share with your new cubicle buddyPaper Clips – To help you ”hold” it all togetherEraser – To help you erase all your fears Whiteout – To help you wipe away problems you don’t feel like solvingPost-Its – To help you remember what’s importantHighlighter – To remind you to highlight and show off your skillsPermanent Marker – To mark the start of your new adventure
I found the notebook and foodie book at Marshall’s and that is when I figured a gift basket would be ideal to carry all the items. After getting the items from Marshall’s, CVS, and the Dollar Store, I got home and began putting the kit together.
Here are the items I used to make the gift basket survival kit:

* Organza Fabric Bags (in various sizes for smaller items)
* Basket
* Cellophane Bag (Found at Dollar Store complete with bow)
* Rubber Band (To hold bag in place while tying bow)*Notecard/cardstock
I picked colors of organza bags that matched with the books in the basket. I was able to fit everything thing in without needing to tape anything down. The cellophane bag really completed the look of the gift basket, and I was stoked it came with the bow where all I had to do was pull the string to create it. For the finishing touches, I used my hair dryer to shrink the cellophane wrap, and then printed out my list of items in the kit on some blue card stock, hole punched the corner, and tied it as a gift tag with the ribbon from the bow.

I think what was cool about this project is that can easily be customized for the person you are giving it to. It also works for other situations when you are stuck with coming up with a good gift idea. I saw a couple of other ideas on Pinterest where Mason Jars were utilized as containers for mini survival kits (so cute!)
This is my first DIY projects/tutorials I’ve shared on my blog inspired by Pinterest, so let me know what you think and what you would add to your new job survival kit!

Search for Sanity

Today’s blog post title may sound a little philosophical, but it is actually the name of a brand. I am wearing a Search for Sanity skirt and it was in my latest LE TOTE box. Using LE TOTE, I have been introduced to labels I have never heard of before, but it makes me wish I had! I love the subtle pattern on the navy skirt and, although you can’t see it, I like the thin faux leather waistband it has.
I opted to wear this skirt with the Splendid black top and Crown Stud Bracelet that also came in my latest TOTE. I recently came across the Circus by Sam Edelman boots and Steve Madden Coat on Poshmark and got them at a great price. I love all of the detail in this outfit, but the boots are definitely my favorite.
This past month I feel I haven’t set aside as much time as I’d like to for blogging, but on the bright side I have made a lot of progress addressing some other ongoing projects. The battle of reducing the number of items in my closet continues, and the pile of items I have is gradually thinning out. I used to spend more time blogging on the weekends because I would be home alone unless I went to visit my family in Salinas for the weekend. Armando started working at the same office as I do, and now has weekends off. While he does get around to doing homework, it is nice that we finally can spend more time together and work on other projects together. For example, on Sunday we went to the city to pick up some shelves I bought in order to replace some short shelves part of a Ikea headboard that I unofficially converted into a makeshift shoe holder.
I am pretty excited about it and am working on arranging and rearranging the shoes and bags I own in there until I am happy with it. I always knew I owned a lot, but it made me realize how nice things can look when you have the space to display them. I also noted how many items I probably don’t need, so there is a good chance I’ll be adding even more items for sale on my Poshmark closet. Once I am satisfied, I will definitely be sharing some pictures. (It feels like something out of Pinterest, and I am so grateful to Armando for helping me pickup the shelves and putting it all together.)

Valentine’s Day came and went and I did not make any cupcakes. I did however make some Valentine’s Day themed cupcakes for the beginning of the month as a good-bye treat in honor of a coworkers last day. She was actually my cubicle neighbor and it was a big deal to me to go through the process and motions of feeling sad that she would be gone but also thrilled for her new job and her new adventure. I think it has taken me awhile to get over that considering I felt we had a close connection. I did make a pretty cute gift basket for her which I will share in a DIY post next.
I am ready to stop moping around and to get back to blogging. This is an outfit I wore to a Holiday party in December, and the shine to the dress makes it perfect for any night out. I wore it to the office too, but the dress has a very sophisticated cut and the metallic shine works for slightly formal occasions. And don’t even get me started on the tassel belt!
This beautiful Trina Turk dress is actually something I scored using ThredUp. I feel like ThredUp is really addictive as it is a mobile, curated thrift store. Items can potentially be new with tags, but at a fraction of the retail price. This dress looked too pretty to pass up, and with their return policy, I felt pretty good about buying it. Had it not fit, or if I was debating whether I should keep it, I would have had 30 days to return it. I have the best luck finding items on that sight and I would recommend checking it out. As of now, I have not send in a bag of items I wish to sell, but I expect I’ll be trying that pretty soon as the need for space in my apartment is ongoing.
My blog turned 3 sometime this month, and I can’t believe it’s been that long since I’ve started! I think a post dedicated to that is also in order. In the meantime, thanks for sticking with me this long and/or welcome to my third year of blogging!
Until next time,

Blue and Gold

Light Beige Trench Coat Banana Republic Factory Store | Blue Tunisa Dress Diane von Furstenberg (here) | Gold Pen Necklace Kate Spade | Cedar Street Elissa Leather Tote Kate Spade (here) | Nadia Arrowhead Bracelet ADIA KIBUR via LE TOTE | Nude Unitty Patent Heels Steve MaddenHappy Monday!
I love the school colors of my Alma Mater, so when I found this amazing dress at Crossroads Trading Co. in a lovely shade of blue I knew right away that I had to pair it with some gold jewelry. (The color of the dress pops even more against the yellow building.) Showing school spirit doesn’t always require wearing a pullover hoodie, especially at work. I received a lot of compliments from my coworkers for this look and I definitely think it had a lot to do with the color scheme.
My Kate Spade bag has been my go-to with all of my outfits for work. It is the best size and I love how the structure stays in tack. It makes me question whether I will be going back to use any of my other bags. I’ve been posting clothes to my Poshmark closet, but I might need to kick up the pace. All the shopping I did over the holidays has caught up with me, and space/storage in my apartment has been my biggest concern. I have been researching some creative solutions on Pinterest, especially shoe displays. We’ll see if I can get to that soon.
Hope you are having a great week so far! I can’t wait to share my next outfit post with you. (Hint: It has to do with Valentine’s Day!)
Until next time,

Influenster Frosty Voxbox Review

I was really lucky to be selected for my first Voxbox courtesy of Influenster over the holiday break, and I thought it would be fun to share what I received and give a breakdown of my favorite products.
In my Frosty Voxbox, I received:
1 Cherry Fruit Vines Bites 1 Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane Decaf Green Tea Sample and Coupon1 McCormick Gourmet All Natural Thyme1 EcoTools Full Volume Styler Brush1 Rimmel Gentle  Eye Makeup Remover1 Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner1 NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Sugar Plum1 Boots No.7 Protect & Perfect ADVANCED Satchet and Coupon
The items were a mix ranging from food to beauty products. I was pretty excited to receive this right before heading home for the holidays. I was able to use the beauty products/makeup remover almost everyday as well as the hairbrush. The Eye Makeup Remover worked really well on removing the two types of mascaras I typically use as well as the Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner. My favorite beauty product was the NYC Expert Lip Color in Sugar Plum. The color worked with everything I wore and lasted a lot longer than I expected. (This lipstick also only retails for $1.99, so I might be trying out some more colors.) I was also a big fan of the hairbrush, particularly because I typically use a round brush on my bangs. I loved how light this brush felt and the overall aesthetic of it.
Out of all the beauty products I received, the only item I was not to crazy about was the Boots No.7 Protect & Perfect ADVANCED Satchet. I am not concerned with wrinkles just yet, so it was hard to test out this product. It was a pretty small sample, but I appreciated that a coupon was included for a full-size bottle of the serum.
I had a chance to use the McCormick Thyme for a couple of chicken recipes, but I am tempted to make some savory cupcakes with this too. (Like these Lemon Thyme cupcakes I found on Pinterest.) I also had the chance to taste the Candy Cane Lane Decaf Green Tea which had some refreshing peppermint notes. I also received a coupon in case I want to buy any more Celestial Seasonings Tea. I am a big fan of their fruit teas, so I know I’ll be using the coupon once I run out of my current tea supply.
The Fruit Vines Bites were a sweet addition to the box and were the perfect snack to share with the family (especially my niece and nephew) while staying in and watching movies on Netflix. I am a fan of regular Red Vines, but needless to say, this was my favorite food item in my Voxbox.
My Frosty Voxbox was a great treat and I enjoyed being able to try out and test the various products. I hope I’ll be selected to review another Voxbox soon. Have you tried any of these items and are you a fan? Let me know!

Until next time,

Pumping Up the Volume with Voloom – Hair Volumizing Iron Review

As I hinted at my last post, I am sharing a review today. iFabbo gave me the opportunity to try out Voloom’s Hair Volumizing Iron. I of course agreed because I am always interested in trying out new things with my hair.

What is the Voloom Hair Volumizing Iron? It is not an iron that straightens or curls your hairs. Instead it is the first heat-styling tool that is specifically designed to add volume to any hair with body and bounce minus the stickiness and weight that comes with using hair mousses and sprays. The best part is it just takes a few minutes.

With the Voloom Hair Volumizing Iron,  3 firm-grip clips, precision brush and a heat resistant mat and travel pouch were also included.

The Voloom features a digital temperature control, fast heat-up, ceramic-coated plates, 8 ft 360-degree swivel cord, tool-locking feature for travel convenience and auto shut-off after 30 minutes of non-use. I really liked the 360-degree swivel cord and how fast iron heated up. I also am a fan of the locking feature not only because it makes it easier to store but also since it protects the plates.

On the left is me with my hair air drying. It is pretty limp after a shower, especially at my crown. I turned on the Voloom Hair Iron and had my hair parted normally. I pinned the top layer of hair on the right first. Taking the Voloom, I crimped small sections of my hair briefly and released immediately. I did it about 4 times for each side and unpinned my top layer to cover where I used the Voloom.

Overall, it was an easy-to-use device. My hair felt soft and I liked how the volume on top balanced out my thick curls. I have not used it on myself with straight hair, but I am looking forward to trying this out again when I do.
If you struggle with flat hair and are not getting the results you want with your products, this might be the perfect investment for you. The price for these retails at $129.99 at Voloom.com. There is currently a 30-Day Risk-Free Trial period. I would recommend trying it out to see if it is not better than your current methods, especially when there is the opportunity to return it if it isn’t for you.
I was very happy with the results and how easy the iron was to use. I will note when I’ve used it in an outfit post (especially if I’ve straightened my hair.)
Hope you enjoyed my review and let me know if you are thinking of getting a Voloom Hair Volumizing Iron. To make the decision a little easier, note that VOLOOM is having a special sale for Valentine’s Day. Use promo code VDAY15 for 15% off.
Until next time,
