Hello Spring!

Floral Dress Kirna Zabate for Target | Lovebirds Belt H&M, Rose Earrings Forever 21 | Tights Chinese Laundry | Ulltra Black Pumps Steve MaddenSpring is here! Time to bust out the floral prints!
I dressed up despite it raining because we had a recognition lunch at work at Five, a bistro located at the Shattuck Plaza Hotel. I shared some photos on Instagram. The food was amazing, and it was fun to have an occasion to dress up for.
I love the print and shape of this dress! I found it at a Goodwill in Salinas with all the tags attached for 9.99. I love how it is sheer but still covers up a lot. Very feminine and retro. I should have worn my hair in a bun for a classic secretary look! (Next time!) As you can see from my recent posts I am a fan of Designer Collaborations with Target. I typically hold out and buy items on sale, on eBay, or until I find them in thrift shops. Their dresses are usually too cute to pass up but I sometimes cannot bring myself to pay full price!
I am also fond of the belt and added it to look like 2 birds flying among the flowers in my dress. My earrings matched the print of the dress too! It is my first time wearing them since purchasing them a year ago. Sometimes you just have to hold out until you find a perfect match.
I can see myself wearing this dress again soon. I have some fun purple petal heels I plan on wearing with this minus the tights. It is perfect for Spring and I am looking forward to the warmer weather and wearing my dresses more often!

I’ve Got the Blues

Blue Trench and Studded Belt Forever 21, Purple and Navy Print Dress Richard Chai for Target, Patterned Tights Chinese Laundry, Ulltra Blue Suede Pumps Steve Madden, Scarf Marc Jacobs

I am starting to let pops of color take over my typical dark wardrobe. I almost wore my black pumps, but I am glad I opted to wear the blue ones. Even if it is not an exact match, wearing different shades of blue is not so bad, right? This might have been what jazz singers were talking about in their songs. (Or sadness, but I prefer to think it was about owning blue clothes.)
I’ve learned that wearing all black is not so blah as long as there are different textures. I had fun pairing this printed dress with my patterned tights. I’ve become a little obsessed with patterned tights lately and I am conflicted since I cannot wait for Spring/ Summer weather so I can bare my legs for a much needed tan. until then, I will be layering and trying to wear as many of my patterned/textured tights as I can!

Job Interview

Outfit 1:  Black Blazer and Pant Suit  Calvin Klein | Green Wrap Top Diane Von Furstenberg | Black Patent Pumps Christian Louboutin | Silver Boyfriend Watch Marc by Marc Jascobs

Outfit 2: Black Blazer Calvin Klein, Green Leopard Print Wrap Dress Diane Von Furstenberg, Silver Boyfriend Watch Marc by Marc Jascobs, Panda Necklace Betsey Johnson, Black Ulltra Pumps Steve MaddenTwo interviews in one week with the same blazer worn two different ways!
I was very nervous and excited for my first interview for a career position since graduating Berkeley. I wanted to look professional and decided to wear a suit that had belonged to my mom. Her closet is full of suits and I opted to take this one and had it altered to fit my shorter frame. I love the pleats in the blazer: It makes this suit look very feminine. For some reason I stuck to wearing black and green for both interviews and it just kind of happened. I should say it is because of St. Patrick’s Day, but I had been wanting to wear the top since purchasing it in December and the wrap dress is one of my favorites because of the print (and color.)
The first interview went okay. I made it to the second round as a finalist, but overall I felt I could have elaborated on the answers I had given. I could have done a better job talking about myself, but it felt very weird, almost like bragging. Then I was notified on Wednesday that I would have another interview on Friday for another position I applied for. I opted for something a little more whimsical like the print of this wrap dress and the Betsey Johnson panda charm necklace. I felt super confident in this dress and the light amount of red lip stain on my lips gave me an edgier look. I felt I took the second interview head-on and dominated! I might be facing a dilemma later if I am chosen for both positions after the second round of interviews, but I would be pretty excited since I could have my pick! I am very optimistic since I improved my interviewing skills in one session and I am looking forward the new opportunities both positions would entail.
Hope you all had a great week (less nerve-wrecking than mine) and thanks for reading!

All You Need is Love

Cream and Black Dress Erin Fetherston for Target | Panda Necklace Betsey Johnson | Bow Belt and Love Ring Forever 21 | Textured Tights Chinese Laundry | Black Ulltra Pumps Steve MaddenSometimes I feel like my style is a little bipolar. In my last post I am wearing the same colors, but in a totally different style. It seems like there is no way this outfit is in the same closet as my ripped jeans and spiked sneakers. And yet they are and I am perfectly content with the variety of items that occupy my wardrobe. Although I have not been experimenting as much as I used to, I like keeping my mind open to trying new looks and mixing up my style so I don’t get stuck in a rut.
I like the ease and comfort of jeans, but there is nothing quite like wearing a dress. I feel even my movements are different.  This is one of the many dresses I purchased from Erin Fetherston’s collaboration with Target years ago. I love how feminine her dresses are which is why I purchased most of the designs. (Yes, even the crazy dresses with tiers of ruffles!) While I have not worn all of them, I love how they look like works of art. I felt this dress was work-appropriate with the neutral colors and conservative cut. The tights also add to the conservative look. Hopefully I added a hint of fun to this dress with the whimsical panda pendant and Love ring.
I also straightened my hair! I have a job interview tomorrow and wanted to look serious. I associate my straight hair with looking serious because it takes more work to fix it this way.  I am looking forward to sharing my interview outfit with you on Wednesday since I have my cake class in the afternoon tomorrow.
Wish me luck!Brandy| BLOGLOVIN | FACEBOOK |  INSTAGRAM |TUMBLR | TWITTER |

Spikes and Chains

Beige Bomber, Ripped Jeans, Bracelets and Rings Forever 21 | Black Scarf Marc Jacobs | Off-White Spiked Alexander Sneakers Sam Edelman
TGIF!
I dressed casual today because 1) it is Friday and 2) I thought it might rain. After work I traveled to Salinas to my parents’ house and my mom looked at me and asked “You wore that to work?” She then added, “Those pants are kind of ghetto.” She cracked me up because it reminded me of when she would take me to school every morning and question some of my outfit choices before we left the house. Today is no different because she did make me think maybe ripped denim is not appropriate for the office. This can be one of my fashion faux pas moments and a prime example of what not to wear to work unless you sell records or are going to a show. I was aiming for a cool, street look with the ripped jeans, spikes and chains. I definitely do not look like I work at an office, but I can’t help dressing down and looking like the students/interns. All I am missing to complete my rebelious look is a ridiculously over-sized set of headphones. Anything goes on a Friday.
Hope you have a great weekend!

Inspired by Jackie O

Trench Coat Viktor & Rolf for H&M | Blue Shift Dress and Sunglasses Diane Von Furstenberg |  Ulltra Nude Heels Steve Madden | Gold Necklace Forever 21
Here is the outfit that I wore to the SF Fashion Tech Week Panel on Tuesday. I wanted to look polished for the event in the city and was excited that it was going to be sunny throughout the day. I debuted my new DVF sunglasses and felt like Jackie O with these over-sized shades. Adding the trench coat and shift dress was a no-brainer. I’ve worn this shift dress before here with a pink blazer and silver heels, but wanted a more neutral look. It is a very versatile piece as you can see from this post. I love that the dress is by DVF and purchased from an outlet store and it is mixed with this Viktor & Rolf trench coat I thrifted at a local Goodwill. It fits slightly big and could be remedied with a belt and some alterations, but I might be passing it on to my mom because she is taller and would appreciate this amazing coat.
This week was very hectic, like I mentioned in my last post, but I wanted to make sure I shared this outfit before the start of the new work week. I also did not take any outfit photos today despite going to the Alameda Antique Fair. This flea market only occurs the first Sunday of every month and I have shared a couple of photos on Instagram. I love visiting estate sales and flea markets because it is almost like visiting a museum. Items can tell stories and it is even better when you can take that piece of history home with you. Make sure to follow me on Instagram @brandysaldana to see more of the items I purchased and some things that I liked. I purchased 2 necklaces and right before I left the fair I found a vintage 1950’s rolling cart. It was the right size for a corner in my kitchen and I had been looking for some type of cart to place a couple of bottles of liquor and other items in the kitchen. I finished setting it up late, so I will try to post a photo on Instagram soon. I love when I find something that fits into my home/lifestyle so seamlessly. It was meant to be!
Hope you had a fabulous weekend like mine and thanks for reading!
