Black DVF Wrap Dress

Wool Wrap Dress Diane Von Furstenberg | Necklace and Bracelets Forever 21 | Black Ulltra Patent Pumps Steve MaddenAnother rainy day and an all-black outfit. This time, however, I feel really inspired to do a series of post with DVF wrap dresses, as I have collected quite a few different types. They are quite versatile, and I could not help putting on my black wool wrap dress today to stay warm and so I could wear the Chanel purse strap inspired necklace along with it. I love how this dress also has pockets and a very simple silhouette. This dress is very basic, and can go with just about every accessory and pair of shoes I own, hence the appeal of an LBD. I think the necklace is appropriate in referencing not only Chanel in terms of the handbag straps, but also in wearing the dress as tribute to her setting off the trend wearing a black dress as something chic and not only restricting it for funerals.
I should digress that most of my outfits revolves around my outerwear, which at this moment primarily consists of black pieces. I am trying to invest in other coats and jackets that are not black, but so far I have yet to find anything that I have to have in order to wear it when it is cold or wet outside. I am looking forward to the sales coming up on winter gear, and one day I hope to find a North Face parka or fleece jacket, thrifted or new, that is not black. I also am always on the hunt for a classic Burberry camel trench coat, but until then I make do with black outerwear. I have not been thrifting in awhile, but I know once I get paid I’ll be itching to go just to see what I will find. I am also in the middle of purging my closet in order to make room and let go of what I haven’t worn. I’d rather get rid of things I don’t wear or am tired of instead of buying more hangers and storage space!

Matador

Bolero jacket Forever 21 | Ruffle Top Chelsea & Theodore | Pants Forever 21 | Jadore ring and Black Bow Headband Forever 21 | Black Zeda Boots Steve Madden |This month’s issue of Elle with Blake Lively on the cover featured some of spring’s hottest trends. One of the trends that really caught my eye was the Real Madrid trend-inspired by Matador boleros, high-waisted pants, and of course the gorgeous Christian Louboutin Torero Heels in ruby red from the Spring 2012 collection! And while it rained today, I felt inspired by those shoes and decided to rock my own take on the matador look.
The ruffles create just enough drama and the boots and jacket prevent it from being too loud. The lack of color also keeps this from looking too costume-like, but if I had the resources I would have added a red sash near the waist. My other favorite look would have been a the same bolero, but switching the pants with a red skirt would have captured the effect of a satin ruby skirt with black embroidery by Emilio Pucci on the same page as the Louboutins. Needless to say, I am very excited about this trend, and if I could get myself some fan earrings I’d be super stoked!

Boardwalk

Striped red and navy cardigan, gold anchor necklace, blue jeans Forever 21 | White flats Steve Madden | Wristlet Coach PoppySuch a fun-filled weekend!

I am very happy to be have been invited by my brother to spend the day at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with his family before I headed back up to my apartment in Berkeley. Today’s outfit was inspired by the fact that we would be spending our day at the Boardwalk. Most of my pieces are from Forever 21, but I’ve linked similar items to shop below. I love this navy and red cardigan and the tiny anchor details in the buttons.
We first played mini-golf in Neptune’s Kingdom. It was a close game in the beginning, but towards the end I kept missing the holes. My brother probably ended up winning, with my sister coming in second place. My niece and nephew had a great time playing against each other, and both managed to make a hole-in-one.
We walked around the boardwalk with the kids and grabbed some food and played games to win prizes. The kids only rode two rides since our focus was to come play mini-golf, and after eating some sweet potato fries decided to start our trip back to Berkeley. Before returning to our car, I took photos with the kids and my sister, but we did not all fit in the booth. It was a fail, but a funny fail. I had so much fun, and I was glad we were able to spend our day together. Perfect way to end the weekend, relaxed, before the start of another busy week.

Weekend Wear

Teal Jacket Member’s Only | Dark Wash Jeans. Multi Color Beaded Strand Necklace Forever 21 | Heart Print Sneakers Harajuku LoversToday’s outfit mixes a unisex Member’s Only Jacket with a basic white tee and dark wash jeans. I paired the jacket with matching Harajuku Lovers sneakers I scored at Marshall’s. I loved the print of the sneakers, and added the colorful beaded necklace to tie in the two pieces together.

My mom suggested we wake up early and go see the matinee showing of The Lorax. We had not gone to the see a movie at the theaters together as a family (at least me, my sister and parents) so there was no time to waste getting ready. We ended up arriving a little before the movie was about to start and enjoyed the entire movie.

It seemed laughter was part of the rest of the day as well. We came back home to prepare lunch for later that day, which was going to be pollo al disco, which is chicken fried in oil in a heated dish outdoors. Potatoes taste amazing when sliced and fried that way too. My brother and his family arrived later and we spent time outside talking, pushing the kids on the swings, watching as my brother played catch with my nephew. We all ate together as a family, which was something we also had not done in a long time. We proceeded to play some Wii Tennis, where my older brother was a bit sour from losing to me and demanded a rematch. He won the second time around before heading to his home.
Our family ended the day by going to Dairy Queen for some blizzards after watching a commercial announcing their special of buy one get one for 99 cents. My sister, boyfriend, niece, nephew and I all ordered blizzards, and bought one for my brother to take to him since we needed to drop off the kids for the night.

Tomorrow looks to be even better day with the possibility of going to the boardwalk in Santa Cruz.

Pastel Trench

Pastel Trim Trench Forever 21 |  Black pants Forever 21 | Black Metallic Scarf Forever 21 (here) | Long Sleeve Black Tee Wet Seal | Black Patent Bow Flats Steve by Steve MaddenNext to Saturday, Friday is my second favorite day. It’s also okay to dress casual for work, but for some reason I didn’t quite pull that off this time around. I wore head-to-toe black, but added a pop of color to the outfit with my pale orange tench. One of my coworkers noted that the color of my trench reminded them of orange sherbet, which I find cute. References to ice cream is a positive thing to me, and I am glad I can make people smile because of what I am wearing.
This week started off a bit shaky, but now I am glad things are running smoothly. Sometimes I’ve had to fake that I know what I am doing by being overly confident, but I think it also helps to look put together. I am getting things done and next week should be a lot easier in terms of me now knowing more than I had when I first started working at the office.
As I got dressed today, I had to pick some items I would be okay with parting for awhile since I was going to be driving down to Salinas to visit my family. I have two closets, the one in my apartment and the one in my room back home. Whenever I feel I have worn a piece too often, or when the season starts changing, I decide to take it back home and pull out some other items to bring back with me to wear. I’m not sure if this trench will be staying back home, but Spring is a coming and I have most of my spring/summer clothes waiting to be worn in that closet. I actually have a lot of different methods for storing all my clothing and accessories in both places, so maybe I shall share my organization tips in a post one day to show how I have made it easier to find something to wear every morning.
Hope you have a great weekend!

Women’s Day

Floral Print Nissa Wrap Top Diane Von Furstenberg | Black Pants, Wing Cuff Bracelet Forever 21 | Over the Knee Black Heeled Boots Nine West |
I spent yesterday night baking cupcakes for my co-workers in honor of International Women’s Day. Today’s outfit was inspired by the floral print from the cupcake liners I used.
I received a bunch of compliments for my DVF floral print blouse. I found this wrap top on eBay at a steal. I love the print and the fit. I was trying to capture a strong, feminine look for today with a mix of florals and the black boots. I paired the floral print top with all black and a statement cuff from Forever 21.
This top is probably going to make a couple more appearances on the blog because of the fun print. I’ve been spending a lot of time browsing through eBay and watching all these amazing designer deals. Have you purchased anything amazing on the site? Let me know!
