Cinco de Mayo

It was the perfect day to wear a colorful maxi dress and get some frozen yogurt from Yogurt Land.
This dress received a lot of compliments, and I think it has to be because of how dramatic it is. This is my first maxi dress I purchased last month, and I found it at a Goodwill, so I didn’t spend too much to try out the trend. I honestly believed it would not flatter me because I am so short (5′ 2″), but I am so glad to be proven wrong! I paired it with a denim jacket (also courtesy of Goodwill) and my seashell belt from Crossroads Trading Co.
Thrift stores can be a hit or miss. Some days I find really great stuff (as seen here) and other times I find nothing I like. I cannot wait to see what other stuff I will find to post here soon.

F.A.S.T. Fashion Show: Fantasy

As I noted yesterday, I did not have time to post my own outfit (or take a photo of it) since I was attending the F.A.S.T spring fashion show. The theme of this semester’s show was fantasy, and I had a blast taking photos of these outfits. It is funny, but one of the only reasons I knew about this event is that I signed up for the club my first semester as a Freshmen, and went to about 3 meetings and never was as motivated to design anything. I did enjoy being a part of the front row crowd taking photos with other people. These are not all the outfits showcased, but they are my favorite. I personally believe my best shot is the one of the red dress, just because it reminds me of something Valentino would create. I admire the hard work, craftsmanship, and detail put into each outfit. Maybe someday I will dust off the sewing machine and create my own looks, but until then I will have fun simply styling myself everyday.

New Camera

Bow Print White Top and Black Pants Forever 21 | Grey Heaven Flats Steve Madden | Sunglasses Ray BansIt has been such a fun weekend! I had not been to the flea market with my family since I was 4, and I was really happy despite the heat. We went to the flea market located in San Jose, and after walking around I realized I was missing a wide sun hat, shorts, and sandals. At one pint I realized wearing a dress might have been more comfortable because of the heat.
We found a couple of neat items when entering in. I found a nifty picnic basket with utensils and room for food in like new condition for $5! Now I just need a day to go on a picnic! We also found a cute black wire wine rack in the shape of a fish. Our total spent was $9. So many goodies to see, but we limited our purchases to just that.
Also, my photo today was taken with my new camera! A Canon T2i DSLR. While this pose is not the best since it was not taken by my usual photographer (Dad instead of my sister), I am excited to be bringing better quality photos to this blog. My other goal would be to go back and retake a few of the photos from previous posts, but we’ll see if I have time.

Green Chloe Dress

Green Crepe Dress Chloe | Lion Pack Belt Deena & Ozzy | Cuff Forever 21 | Black Patent Ulltra Pumps Steve Madden | Similar look hereDifferent hairstyle today! I feel one always has really good hair days, and others not so much. I have also been feeling a bit blah when having the same look everyday (even though it works for me). I really like how this bun came out, and it was so simple! I can see myself using it with future outfits more often! I even wore lipstick (a really neutral shade) because I felt this look required some.
This Chloe dress was purchase at Crossroads recently, and so was the belt! The belt, however, was purchased about 3 years ago, and I had only worn it once before with an oxford shirt. The shades of bronze really compliment the dress, and it seems as if the two pieces were made for each other. This is another example why some pieces should not be tossed out of your closet because you never know when you might something that works well with it. This look is one of my favorites, and it reminded me of maybe what an art curator or librarian would wear. I am just missing the reading glasses.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Tunic

Some days I wake up knowing exactly what to wear, but I love days like today where I have no clue and discover something I had forgotten about in my closet and pull together a new look. This tunic was something I found once again at Crossroads Trading Co, and now that I am out of hangers I had it hiding under a Marc Jacobs Coat. I loved the navy and raspberry pink colors on this and could not help noticing it while digging around my closet. I tried it on and then realized it needed to be belted. The obi belt is one I have had since high school, and I believe today is the first time I have worn it. Some things should just never be thrown away because you never know when you might be able to find a perfect match for it.

Colorful

Raspberry Pink Cardigan, Black Slacks, Peacock Ring and Stack of Colorful Bangles Forever 21 | Top Diane Von Furstenberg | Black Patent Heaven Flats Steve Madden (here) | Similar look hereI am trying to work color in everyday to avoid being boring and only wearing black. Spring is the time to really embrace color to dispel the winter blues (and all that dark clothing.) I am wearing black pants and shoes, but this is so I do not overwhelm the colors I have on now. Accessories are an easy way to really add that pop of color to an outfit.
I am usually unable to provide links for the items I am wearing because my clothes are usually thrifted or from many seasons ago. I think that is the best way to be unique and express one’s individual sense of style because it is highly unlikely you’ll bump into someone wearing the exact same thing.  And while my goal is to help someone decide what to wear with my posts for a certain event or with a certain piece, my input is not meant to be the rule. I’d prefer to be a source of inspiration as opposed to a source for imitation.
That being said, the ring and bangles are actually somethings I bought recently at Forever 21. I bought quite a few accessories from there as a small treat for myself. The ring is one size fits all, and at first I thought it was a funky shape, but was happy to see it was a peacock. I like how it works with the colors of my top.

How do you incorporate color into your look?
