Baby Showers

As promised, here are the photos of the cake my sister and I decorated for a baby shower last weekend.
This cake was a gift for my sister’s friend. To not go over budget making cupcakes for an event with 100+ guests, we ordered a plain sheet cake from Costco and made the decorations. It took about 4 hours on the day of the event, and the decorations came out great and the mom-to-be was very pleased with the cake.
We purchased some pound cake and sculpted it in the shape of the bassinet and cubes. My sister rolled out and shaped most of the fondant. Even Mando helped out too by doing the sculpting of pound cake structures and letters on the cubes free handed. I did the icing of our edible decorations, added borders, and the bow!
Everything was edible, and while we probably could have made our own sheet cake, it is important for my sister and I to really focus more on detail and other artistic touches. I have been watching a lot of episodes of Cake Boss on Netflix lately, and what always impresses me are the details of a cake. I was also really pleased with carrying in the cake and having people marvel at what we had done. I can see why Buddy from Cake Boss loves doing what he does, because making people happy and smile is really fulfilling.
It just so happens my sister and I attended another baby shower today, and there is another one my family is scheduled to attend next weekend too. So many people are having babies, and me and my sister are over here like “Hey, we made cupcakes!”
For now, our cupcake business is our baby, and we plan to keep it that way for a long while.

Shop It Like It’s Hot

I spent my Wednesday night at an exclusive shopping event sponsored by Chictopia in partnership with Crossroads Trading Co., American Apparel and other San Francisco local boutiques.
The event was held at the 111 Minna Gallery and I was excited to take a look at the items Crossroads would be debuting for spring.  Guest bloggers Kathleen from Inspirafashion and Jessica from Happa Time were also there providing style advice to the first 50 guests to attend.  I met Kathleen at the last Crossroads Shopping event and she is such a sweety. She looked great and I am sorry to not have a photo of her, but I am sure she will post her outfit on her blog. I met Jessica for the first time and she seems to be a real nice person too.

The outfit and the shoes-If you want to leave an impression, wear fabulous shoes.

Black Blazer and Jeans 7 For All Mankind | Top Diane Von Furstenberg | Bracelets and Ring Forever 21 |  Silver Glitter Baxen Wedges Jimmy Choo | Black Quilted Bossi Camera Bag THEITAs you can see from my big bag, I found more than I expected.  I am glad I sold some clothes last week and came in with some trade for the event. I feel I am doing a great job with my finances this month and staying sustainable by reselling clothes I don’t wear and buying other people’s unworn treasures.
I met a lot of people and overall had a great experience. It’s refreshing to meet other bloggers who are making it in the fashion world doing what they love. I am loving these types of events where I meet people that are passionate about clothes, their jobs, or their interests. A big thank you to Crossroads for the invite and to Chictopia for hosting this wonderful event!

Morphine Generation Hoodie

Fur Lined Hoodie Morphine Generation | Scarf Marc Jacobs | T-Shirt Wet Seal | Jeans  J Brand |  Suede Boots  Steve Madden | Sunglasses Ray-Bans
My casual weekend look. It was pretty cold and in case I needed to ride my bike for errands I dressed warm.
I spent the day working on updates for the site. How do you like the new look so far? I am learning a lot about HTML and design as I continue my journey as a blogger. Bare with me as I work out all the kinks.
My boots in this photo are from high school, and despite cleaning out my closet constantly, I have a hard time letting go of clothes. I have a sentimental attachment to a lot of my high school clothes and despite not wearing them, they stick around in my closet. I would rarely wear these boots because I didn’t really have anything to wear with them, but I treasure them because they were a Christmas gift from my mom my junior year in high school.
I found this hoodie 2 months ago at a Goodwill, and right away fell in love with the washed out look and fur lined hood. The detail in the back is also unexpected, and I love the look overall. Perfect to wear on a day when it is cold and there is no need to really dress up.

THEIT Bossi Bag

Black Camera Bag THEIT (buy here), Grey Sweater Top August Silk, Scarf Marc Jacobs, Black Pants Forever 21, Black Patent Flats Steve Madden, Seashorse Ring Crossroads Trading Co.A late Christmas present has finally arrived!
Say hello to my new, stylish camera bag! This is THEIT Bossi bag in classic black, and I am already in love. The classic quilted look, the removable chain strap with a pad for comfort, and compact shape make it an ideal bag.  I like how the compartments inside are removable and can now protect my camera wherever I go. I can fit quite a bit in this bag with a camera and lens packed in, so I am not too worried about having enough space. I am excited to be taking it to work on Monday in case I need my camera.
I wore a casual outfit today in order to help my sister decorate a cake for a baby shower. The party was in San Francisco so while she attended the baby shower, Mando and I visited the Stonestown Galleria Mall. Here I am posing at an in inconspicuous corner of the mall. Only had a few people staring this time, but everyone seemed to be on a mission at the mall.
I ended up purchasing a few things – doh- but I am proud I didn’t spend a ton of money. I found some bracelets at Forever 21 and used a gift card I had and spent only $17. I ended up going to the Nordstrom Rack on 4th Street with Mando and my sister, Nikki, and purchased some Sam Edelman flats for myself and some wedge sneakers for her. She had cleaned out her closet and I sold some of the items at Crossroads, so I felt this was a good way of paying her back.
Overall, not too much damage. I am still underbudget for the month which is great since I will be going to another shopping event this Wednesday!
Photos of the cake we decorated to come soon!

White Princess Coat

White Princess Coat, Black Patent Ulltra Pumps Steve Madden, Black Dress Laundry by Shelli Segal, Necklace Wet SealHere is my favorite white princess coat I wore on Tuesday! I actually have been wearing the black version of this frequently to work, more often than this one. This one is a little bit harder to wear only because it is white and I would hate to get it dirty!
It is so silly that I fear getting clothes dirty because then I am less likely to wear them. I have to remind myself that the reason I have something is to use it! I know bloggers love to share their favorite items in their closet and talk about how often they wear it. I am the complete opposite. I see some of my items as works of art, especially my designer heels, and dislike the idea of messing them up. I am working on that little quirk of mine so that I wear what I have and not buy more clothes.
I am very proud to say I have also been able to avoid buying any new clothes this month! Woo hoo! I will be attending a fashion event next Wednesday that will be hosted by Crossroads and I might be buying something if I absolutely must have it. I cleaned out my closet and took some clothes to sell last night and made enough for 1 or 2 things at the shopping event. I am trying to be as eco-friendly after all.
Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll check in to see details of the event next week.

Pastel Birthday Cupcakes

Here are the cupcakes I made for the birthday party on Sunday!
I was asked to bake 3 dozen cupcakes: 12 caramel apple with vanilla frosting, 12 red velvet with cream cheese, and 12 strawberry with vanilla frosting. I was told to work with pastel colors and/or polka dots. I tinted frosting in pastel colors and used circle sprinkles (along with pastel “jimmy” sprinkles) for a simple decoration.
I had a lot of fun tinting the frosting. I think the lavender looks especially good on the red velvet cupcake. I am also really proud of the mint colored frosting. Everyone at the party loved the cupcakes and I was glad that my client said she got exactly what she wanted.
What do you think of the colors? Don’t they make you wish spring was here already?
Don’t forget to check out my other cupcake creations under the Pandycakes page. You’ll be glad you did!=D
